Florine A. (Trussell) Bowman

Florine A. Bowman, 99 formerly of West Alexander and Claysville area, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Willis and Mae Trussell of West Finley. She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Bowman, a daughter M. Jean McDonald, sisters Florence Richey, Kathryn Riggle and Helen Trussell, also sons-in law Gary McDonald and Charles Hartzell. Surviving are daughter Nancy Hartzell, of Wheeling, WV, and son Ronald Bowman of Milliken, Co. Florine has 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Cooneytown, a one room school at age 14, after finishing the 8th grade. Florine was known for her pleasant smile and personality. She was a talented piano player having played her first square dance in 1942 in the home of Curlis Little before he left for the Army. This was the beginning of many years of her musical entertainment.

Florine was a farmer’s daughter, who became a farmer’s wife. She loved being outside, gardening, canning, making bread, working with animals, and sharing her life’s pages with her family and friends.

She was also a member of Dallas United Methodist Church, West Alexander Golden Agers, and Claysville Senior Center.

The family would like to express a special” Thank You “to all the supervisors and staff at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, who gave Florine such excellent care.
