Reverend George W. Plants Jr.
Church of God Pastor
George W. Plants Jr. of Claysville, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 24, 2019
He was born July 1, 1936 in Claysville, a son of the late George and Mildred Plants.
On November 17, 1958, George married Shirley Joy Hickman, who survives. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage at a dinner given by family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his eight brothers and a sister, Marvin “Duane”, Gerald, Gaylord “Giz”, Larry, Julian, Rudy, Grayson, Roger, David and Patricia “Patty” Plants. Surviving is a sister Mildred “Midge” Moore.
George was the father of four children, Valerie (Richard) Sanders, Georgetta Plants, Matthew Plants, and Jason (Amy) Plants. Pappy George has seven grandchildren, Marissa, Jenna, Paige, Myaa, Shaun, David and Ryan.
George was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed for many years as a pipeline welder for Local 798. He loved to weld (repair) everything around his home.
He enjoyed cultivating his beautiful garden. George always grew excessive amounts of crops, too many to be preserved at home, so he gave much of the fruits of his labors to “those in need and don’t have”.
His greatest joy was his work in the vineyard of the Lord. Rev. George pastored the Jennings Church of God in Grantsville, Maryland. He loved to Shepherd his flock (church) so much that he drove two hours each weekend to get to the church. He did this for over 42 years. His greatest desire was to be a witness for God and to tell everyone that he met, about his Love for his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, Monday, January 28th at the Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323 (724) 663-7373 www.youngfhinc.com .
