Leah Plaisted Obituary

Leah Plaisted of Hawthorne Woods went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, September 3, 2018. She was 102 years of age and she had been patiently looking forward to being reunited with her husband Leon of 70 years after being separated by his death 10 years ago. We are comforted knowing that both are now standing on the promise of eternal life with Jesus Christ through their belief in the Gospel of Christ as found in the scriptures.

Leah was born October 15, 1915 in Port Allegheny, PA. Her father was Abner Dor Cooper who died when Leah was a child. Her mother, Fanny Della Bishop Cooper raised Leah and sisters Corale and Zona as a single mother working as a manager of a silk mill in Shingle House, PA. Leah graduated from Mansfield University earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She married Leon Plaisted in 1938 and they adopted Martin Plaisted in 1944 as an infant. They moved to Claysville in the 1950’s and Leah found employment with Sears and worked there until retirement. Many in the community will remember her as the switchboard operator at sears.  Leah lived on School Street in Claysville until 2012 when she moved to the assisted living facility at Hawthorne Woods in Washington, PA. Leah was grateful for the loving care she received at Hawthorne Woods.

Leah will be best remembered as a devoted follower of Jesus. Leah and Leon were both very active members of the Claysville Baptist Church and they contributed their time, talents and financial resources in a generous measure to the church. Leah used her gift of music serving as organist, pianist and singer faithfully every week until she was not physically able. Leah had a special gift of being able to brighten the life of just about every person she met and this was evident up until the end of her life.

She is preceded in death by her father Abner Dor Cooper, her mother Fanny Della Bishop Cooper, Husband Leon Plaisted, son Martin Plaisted, Sr., sisters Zona Cooper and Corale Cooper Hardy. She is survived by her grandsons Martin Plaisted, Jr,John Plaisted, and niece Natalie Poole. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, especially Bill and Rose Baron who managed her personal affairs when Leah could no longer do so.
