Robert E. Armstrong, 88, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2019. He was born March 27, 1931 in Claysville, Pennsylvania to James “Bill” and Nancy (Miller) Armstrong. He graduated from Claysville High School in 1949. The following year he joined the military and served in the Korean War. He continued on to work for Columbia Gas and Mellon Bank, retiring from both careers. On June 9, 1956 he married Marilyn Crane. They had one son, Timothy Armstrong of Canonsburg, and a daughter, Melissa (Mike) Henderson of Claysville, two granddaughters, Breanna (Richard) Trybend, and Amanda (Joshua) O’Neill. Robert was a lifetime member and post commander of the American Legion Post 639. He loved to dance and spent a lot of his time organizing the many dances held over the years. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his two granddaughters, who cherished him more than anything. His pastimes included working on crossword puzzles and watching his favorite shows. A graveside military service will be held at the Claysville Cemetery 11 am on Saturday, September 14.
