Betty Jane Thompson

Betty Jane Thompson, 76, formerly of Claysville, PA, died Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Premier Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  She was born March 13, 1948, in Claysville, a daughter of Sara Jane Conkey and Thomas Arthur Conkey, Sr.  

Betty grew up in Claysville and was a 1966 graduate of McGuffey High School.  She was active in 4-H and had a strong love for horses that led her to compete at a state level.  
She ventured outside of southwestern Pennsylvania to enjoy living in Washington, DC, immediately after graduating high school.  She spent her married years with Samuel Thompson in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, where her children were born, before eventually returning to southwestern Pennsylvania to live the remainder of her years.  

She enjoyed traveling, and she particularly loved visiting Mackinac Island.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as cooking delicious meals for those she loved. 

She held various jobs throughout her life, most recently retiring from Greenbriar Treatment Center, where she worked as a medical coder.  

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and both her sister and brother, Karen Amos and Thomas Conkey Jr. 

She is survived by her three children Jeff (Debra) Thompson of Edmore, Michigan; Michael (Carl Miller) Thompson of Fennville, Michigan; and Jody (Jon Hill) Thompson of Monongahela, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren Ashely (Trey) Crusey, Jordan Thompson, Presley Thompson, Nathan Thompson, and Sammy Laschinsky; 4 great-grandchildren, and sister, Debra Conklin, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Friends will be received from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323 724-663-7373. The funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Interment to follow at Claysville Cemetery.
