James J. Madine, Sr.

James J. Madine, Sr. 70, of West Alexander, PA, passed away after a health struggle with pneumonia and cancer on July 1, 2024.

James was born on May 20, 1954, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late James F. and Caroline Pritchard Madine.

After meeting at Bethel Roll Arena, he married his true love and best friend Lona Vilsack Madine on March 20, 1976

He started his career in 1976 at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and after 38 years he retired on December 8, 2014. 

In his downtime, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, roller skating at Bethel Roll Arena, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. 

He was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather. He will truly be missed by all.

James is survived by his wife Lona Vilsack Madine, children James J. Madine, Jr., Stacey Severin (Griffith), and Michelle Hatfield (Earl), seven grandchildren Earl Jr., Connor, Grace, McKenna, Sarah, Hunter, and Kylee, his aunt Helen Cavanaugh, and his dog Lucy.

A blessing service will be held at the funeral home at 10 am on Monday, July 8, 2024. Interment to follow at St. John Vianney Cemetery 920 Brownsville Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15210
