John W. Stewart

John W. Stewart, 83, of Washington PA passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024.  He was born January 14, 1941, in Taylorstown PA, a son of the late Wilbur “Tom” and Gladys McDough Stewart.

John was a 1959 graduate of Claysville High School.  On October 6th, 1963, he married Virginia Alice Wier, with whom he spent 54 wonderful years prior to her death in 2018. 

He worked at Molycorp, Findlay Refractories, Murphy Family Inc, SKC, and Home Depot.  For many years he was the farmhand of Sprowls’ Longhorn Ranch where he resided.  John was the happiest doing any physical labor outdoors.  

He was a member of Liberty Chapel in Washington and a former member of Zion United Methodist Church in Claysville.

He is survived by a sister, Patty (Charles) McConnell; daughters, Vickie Simms (Dave), Cindy Phillips, and Alice Simms (Ray); grandchildren David Simms Jr., Jarrit Simms, Jessica Simms, Matthew Phillips, Candace Phillip, Justin Simms, and Marissa Simms; 14 great-grandchildren; and his best friend and companion, Vickie Byers.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife are sisters Marjorie Travis and Sarah “Sally” McConnell.

Friends and Family will be received from 9 AM  to 1 PM on Wednesday, November 27th at Young Home & Cremation Services Inc, 219 Main Street, Claysville PA  15323. 724-663-7373 www.youngfhinc.com The funeral service will begin at 1 PM, officiated by Rev. Dr. Laura A. Saffell.  Interment to follow at Claysville Cemetery.
