It is with great sorrow the family of Margaret (Peggy) Josephine Shankovich, of Washington, PA, announces the passing of their beloved sister, niece, aunt, and cousin. Our dearest Peggy received an offer she couldn’t refuse and was happy to leave when the Lord called her back into His eternal care on October 4, 2023. She was 80 years old.
Peggy was born June 25, 1943, in her family’s home in Washington, PA. She was the firstborn of four children to Stanley and Elizabeth Shankovich. She was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and retired as a nursing assistant fromthe Washington Hospital (5A and the OBGYN Clinic). Her career allowed her to share her nurturing and joking nature and carry out some inter-office shenanigans – which she apparently sometimes led. She was a life-long member of the Glenn Street Free Methodist Church.
She was a dedicated daughter, loving sister, and dear friend to many, but she doted on her nieces, nephews, and their children. She was passionate about her Pittsburgh Pirates, and enjoyed reading, word searches, telling dad jokes, and decorating for all the seasons and holidays. She loved Christmas and her familial role of Freddy the Elf, and the Bible verse Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Peggy was known for her big heart and kind and thoughtful soul. She cared deeply for the people around her. Everyone she left in this world hates she is gone, but we are happy she is home free, painless, and reunited with her much-missed family members. We will always love and miss her until we can meet again.“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.” ― David Searls
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother and sister; Richard (Deborah) Shankovich, and Phyllis (Gary) Irey; and nieces and nephews; Darcie (Bob) Glendenning, Dea (Derrick) Jaber, Anthony (Jessie) Shankovich, Clarissa (Brandon) Henry, Regina (Brandon) Evans, Rich (Brandi Jo) Irey, and Michele Stahl. Peg is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was met in Heaven by her parents, Stanley Shankovich and Elizabeth (Lib) Shankovich; sister Linda Craig, and several aunts and uncles.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on a later date, to be determined. Arrangements are entrusted to Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323, (724) 663-7373.
