Marguerite Maropis

Marguerite Maropis, 95, passed away in her Burgettstown, PA, home on December 29, 2022; she had been married to Pete Maropis for 69 years when he passed away just a year before at the age of 96. She was the daughter of Manuel and Mercedes Martinez, who migrated to the U.S. in the early 20th century from Aviles, Spain. Marguerite was born in Langeloth, PA, on January 10, 1927.  She was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1945. 

Marguerite first met her beloved husband at a wedding in which she was a bridesmaid, and he was a guest. They married on August 11, 1952. After raising her three sons, Peter, Michael, and  Patrick, and involving herself in their many, many school and after-school activities, Marguerite  

began a part-time career as a teacher's aide in Eldersville Grade School. She thoroughly enjoyed playing in a bowling league and on a women's and couples' golf league for many years afterwards. 

Marguerite was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son Peter, and five brothers and two sisters, Dee, Manuel, Beatrice, Emilio, Constantine, Joseph, and Francis. She is survived by sons Michael (Debarah) and Patrick (David Butler), and daughter-in-law Kathryn, grandchildren  Peter (Emily), Matthew (Kayla), Derek (Brooke), and Michal Jane (Joe) Newman, and three great-grandchildren, Mia, Logan, and Joseph. Surviving, in addition to immediate family members, are many loving relatives and close friends. May her memory be eternal and her soul rest in peace. 

Friends and family will be received from 9:00 am – 10:00 am on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Young  Funeral Home &  Cremation Services Inc.  23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
