Richard (Rick) Matalik, 54, of Canonsburg died unexpectedly on December 13, 2021, in St. Clair Hospital. He is the beloved son of Bob and Freddie Matalik of Burgettstown. After graduating from Burgettstown High School in 1986, Rick went on to technical school at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He very much enjoyed his work as an aircraft mechanic/inspector and all of the friends and co-workers that he met along the way. Over his 20+ year career that he enjoyed so much, he chased airline jobs to Hagerstown, MD, Charlotte, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, back to Charlotte, NC, and finally back to Pittsburgh. Yes, we moved a lot. In his spare time, Rick enjoyed many beach vacations up and down the east coast. Surprisingly, we almost always went by car. Coincidentally, his final family vacation was to Kitty Hawk, NC – where aviation first began.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Shelley, of 29 years and son, Ryan who is 12. Rick is also survived by his parents, Bob and Freddie Matalik of Burgettstown, sister Jill Walters of Ohio, brother Bob (Brenda) Matalik of South Carolina, in-laws John and Ricki Shimon of Bulger, PA, brother-in-law, and friend Jeff (Pam) Shimon of Florida, and brother-in-law Eric (Kiesha) Shimon of West Virginia, along with several nieces and a nephew. At the request of the family, no flowers please.
To all of his extended family, many friends present and past, softball teammates from back in the day, co-workers and acquaintances, know that he cared for each and every one of you even if he didn’t always say it.
A graveside service will be held at Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald, PA where he will finally be able to get some rest. Forever in our hearts… we love you.
Arrangements are entrusted to Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown PA 15021. (724) 947-2049 www.youngfhinc.com
