Steve Gavatorta, Jr. 81, of Burgettstown, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, in The Wyngate Senior Living Community. Steve, better known by most as Spivey was born on April 13, 1941, son of the late Steve and Anita Gavatorta. He was the beloved husband of the late Donna K. Gavatorta and loving father to his son Stephen Paul Gavatorta.
Spivey, a passionate entrepreneur, had been the owner of Steve’s Fruit Market for over 25 years. He was an outstanding cook, avid Lionel train collector, and may be best known for his teenage dances at the Maryann Ballroom in the 1960s & early 1970s. At one time his dances were so popular they were promoted on WAMO by DJ Porky “the Daddio of the Raddio” Chedwick, who also became a friend.
Surviving is son Stephen Paul Gavatorta of Tampa, and sister Katherine Bernola of Washington. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna K. Gavatorta, and his parents Steve & Anita Gavatorta.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. All other arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family.
